GLOBAL WAR ON TERRORISM

National Defense Service Medal - Authorized for the fourth time in our nation's history in May, 2002, for honorable service as a member of the United States Armed Forces, including the Coast Guard, from September 11, 2001 to a date to be determined.  Eligible service members include active duty, members of the selected  reserve in good standing, and members of other than the selected reserve who were called to active duty.

Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal - Authorized by presidential executive order on March 12, 2003 for deployed service abroad in support of the Global War on Terrorism operations on, or after Sept 11, 2001.  Awarded to any member of the Armed Forces who is deployed in an approved operation, such as Enduring Freedom.  To be eligible personnel must have participated in the operation by authority of written order.  Qualification includes at least 30 consecutive days or 60 nonconsecutive days or be engaged in actual combat, or duty that is equally as hazardous as combat duty, or wounded or injured requiring evacuation from the operation, or while participating as a regularly assigned aircrew member flying sorties into, out of, within or over the area of eligibility in direct support of military operations.

Global War on Terrorism Service Medal - Authorized by presidential executive order on March 12, 2003 for service in support of the Global War on Terrorism operations on, or after Sept 11, 2001.  Awarded to any member of the Armed Forces who participates in support of an approved operation, such as Noble Eagle and Enduring Freedom.  To be eligible personnel must have participated in the operation by authority of written order.  Qualification includes at least 30 consecutive days or 60 nonconsecutive days.

NOTE:  Personnel may receive both the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medals if they meet the requirements for both awards, however service eligibility for one cannot be used to justify service eligibility for the other.
